Biography
Katelyn Martin was born in Lancaster, PA in August of 1989. Coming from a musical family, Katelyn began studying music at the age of 9. She began playing the piano and clarinet in 3rd grade and began singing in the 5th grade.
In high school, Katelyn was a member of the J.P McCaskey High School Marching Band, Concert band, Wind Ensemble and Orchestra. She also sang in the Vocal Ensemble and the Chamber Choir. She was a member of LLMEA County band in 2005, 2006 and 2007, and she was a member of the LLMEA County Chorus in 2006 and 2007. She has also sung in the PMEA District 7 Chorus Festival in 2006 and 2007, PMEA Region 5 Chorus Festival in 2007, and was the first alternate for PMEA State Chorus in 2007. Upon graduation, Katelyn had received a number of music scholarships from her high school, including Orchestra, Choir, Band and outstanding musician awards.
Katelyn attended Mansfield University in the fall of 2007, where she majored in Music Performance, with a concentration on voice. She was a member of the Mansfield University Concert Choir and Women's choir under the direction of Dr. Peggy Dettwiler. In the summer of 2008, Katelyn was a member of the American gold-winning choir at The World Choir Games. The Mansfield University Concert Choir won the Gold and earned the highest score in the "Gospel and Spiritual" category.
Katelyn graduated from Millersville Univeristy of Pennsylvania in May of 2012 with a bachelors degree of the arts with a vocal performance concentration. While attending Millersville, Katelyn participated in the Keystone Singers, Concert Band, Women's Choir and University choir and was the founder and conductor of the Millersville University's vocal jazz ensemble, 8 to the Bar.
Katelyn currently resides in Lancaster, PA with her husband Derek and works at Philhaven's Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities. She owns a voice and piano studio with Derek, called Martin Music and teaches a number of students of all ages and abilities. You can find Katelyn on stage occasionally with Opera Lancaster and Sunday mornings singing with her church choir at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, PA.
